Kiwano Melon

 

 

 

This is a melon that has been well photographed but hasn’t been investigated thoroughly. Until now .......

 

 

Kiwano melon goes by many different names, horned melon, African melon, melano and jelly melon are all unique names that are associated with this fruit. The Kiwano melon is native to the Kalahari Desert; these particular melons are picked green and then allowed to ripen. This melon has different stages of ripeness which determines their taste.  When ripe it tastes like a cross between a cucumber and kiwifruit, and when fully ripe it tastes like a banana.

 

 

The best way to enjoy this fruit is to cut it in half and suck out the insides,the seeds aren’t toxic so enjoy.
